Shujaaz Inc is seeking talented and dedicated Research Programme Manager to join our Partnerships & Programmes Department, to support current and incoming programmes. As a Research Program Manager, you will play a critical role in delivering our award-winning media for social change programmes. You will be responsible for coordinating the execution of contracted programmes, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and with the desired results.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Design and Execution

Coordinate the design, implementation, and monitoring of contracted programmes that deliver measurable value and impact to young people, Shujaaz Inc and funding partners.
Define programme scope, objectives and deliverables in collaboration with internal stakeholders. Develop detailed project schedules, workplans, and allocate resources efficiently across departments.

Stakeholder Communication and Relationship Management

Act as the primary point of contact for all programme-related communication, ensuring that internal teams and external partners are fully informed of objectives, progress, and expectations.
Develop and implement effective communication plans to keep partners updated on project timelines, milestones, and outcomes. This includes writing and editing reports, updating measurement frameworks, and leading regular status calls.
Manage and nurture relationships between internal teams and external partners, ensuring alignment on programme goals and swiftly addressing any issues or queries.

Programme Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor the progress of programmes against agreed timelines, budgets, and outcomes, making adjustments as necessary to ensure successful implementation.
  • Prepare and present detailed programme reports to internal stakeholders and partners, including budget tracking, cost reporting and performance metrics.
  • Lead the preparation and timely submission of all partner reports, deliverables, and related outputs, ensuring high-quality documentation and communication.

Risk Management and Contingency Planning

Anticipate, identify, and assess potential programme risks, developing and implementing effective mitigation and contingency plans.
Regularly review programme strategies, incorporating insights from monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities to optimize outcomes and adapt to changing circumstances.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align on programme design, goals, and delivery.
  • Coordinate and lead internal and external programme review meetings, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned on progress and next steps.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Management
  • Coordinate the preparation and curation of comprehensive project management documents, including protocols, programme strategies, and MEL frameworks.
  • Gather, synthesize, and present programme data, evidence, and insights, creating high-quality content for both technical and non-technical audiences, such as case studies, reports and
  • articles.

Skills & Experience Required

Programme and Project Management Expertise

  • Proven experience in Programme and Project Management including the development and implementation of project schedules, workplans, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of project management tools and methodologies such as RAG (Red, Amber, Green), RACI (Responsible, Accountable, Consulted, Informed), and R&I (Risks & Issues) trackers.
  • Certification in Project Management is highly desirable.
  • Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation (M&E)
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating action research, ethics, safeguarding, and data privacy/integrity into programme process, including the development of protocols, workplans, and communication outputs.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) frameworks, including the development of data-informed outputs such as reports, case studies, and impact stories.
  • Ability to gather, review, and synthesize programme data and evidence from various sources, creating high-quality content for diverse audiences, including technical reports and publications.

Communication and Stakeholder Management

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to liaise effectively between clients, partners, and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, addressing conflicts or challenges swiftly and diplomatically.
  • Proficiency in creating detailed project documentation, reports, and partner communications, ensuring clarity and transparency throughout the programme lifecycle.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to anticipate challenges and develop creative solutions to ensure programmes are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
  • Knowledge of Media for Social Change and Public Interest Research
  • Experience in or knowledge of media for social change, public interest research, or similar fields is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of the social and economic development landscape in East Africa, with a focus on youth-focused initiatives.
  • Team Collaboration and Adaptability
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, contributing to collective goals and adapting to changing circumstances as needed.
  • Demonstrated interest and commitment to the mission of empowering young people through media and social change.

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in programme or project management, with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects in relevant sectors.
