Position Summary: 

  • The Quality Controller is responsible for ensuring that all avocados produced meet the highest quality standards. This includes overseeing the harvesting, processing, packaging, and shipping processes to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. The Quality Controller will work closely with farm workers, packhouse staff, and management to maintain and improve quality control systems and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure quality specifications are met and maintained during growing, harvesting, transportation, grading, sorting, and packing of produce. 
  • Scout farms to identify fruit quality and establish harvest projections. 
  • In liaison with the farm Managers, recruit, train and supervise a team of harvesters to meet quantities and qualities required within the prescribed timelines. 
  • Oversee harvesting ensuring that only fruits meeting the quality required by Greenline are harvested and that the fruits are handled in such a way that protects their quality. 
  • Inspect premises and personnel hygiene regularly and ensure cleaning of farm facilities,transport facilities, tools and equipment is carried out before and after every harvest operation. 
  • Organize for collection of crates and other tools and equipment from the stores, delivery to farms and return to the company stores. 
  • Ensuring proper and timely documentation of all operations under their responsibility. 
  • On-the-job coaching on food safety principles and operating procedures. 
  • Provide technical advice to farms on GAPs and industry standards and assist in implementing compliance requirements, internal audits and company procedures. 
  • Ensure the safety of staff, products and assets. 
  • Be responsible for the company and product Integrity. 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Food Science, or a related field preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality control, preferably in the agricultural sector. 
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations. 
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Proficiency in using quality control software and tools. 
  • Ability to train and mentor staff on quality control procedures.
