Job Summary

Reporting to the General Manager, Commercial Services, the role leads the development and execution of the company’s sustainability strategies. The position oversees sustainability projects, ensures compliance with environmental and social safeguards, and evaluates their impact to drive long-term environmental and social responsibility.

Job Description

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sustainability and environmental management policies.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and international standards.
  • Oversee Environmental and Social Impact Assessments ESIAs and related reporting.
  • Lead the design and implementation of environmental management programs.
  • Ensure statutory environmental audits are conducted and recommendations implemented.
  • Coordinate the development and trading of carbon assets in line with climate policies and protocols.
  • Promote catchment conservation through partnerships and community engagement.
  • Drive initiatives aligned with Global Compact principles and report on progress.
  • Lead preparation and execution of Resettlement Action Plans.
  • Manage divisional staff, budgets, and resources.
  • Establish and oversee project stakeholder committees.
  • Ensure financiers’ environmental and social safeguard requirements are met.
  • Assess projects for environmental and social feasibility.
  • Foster a culture of environmental and social sustainability within the company.

Person specifications

  • Experience of at least twelve 12 years in a relevant field, four 4 of which should be at middle management level in a large organization or equivalent.
  • Degree in Environmental Studies or Natural Resource Management or equivalent
  • A relevant master’s degree from a recognized institution.
  • Relevant professional qualifications and current good standing membership to recognized institutions
  • Membership to Environmental Institute of Kenya
  • Management course lasting not less than 4 weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Fulfil the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.
