The Investment Analyst / Research Analyst will conduct rigorous financial, macroeconomic, and related research to support investment decisions across diverse asset classes including fixed income securities, equities and alternative assets. The role requires a blend of fundamental analysis, quantitative modeling, and ESG risk assessment while ensuring compliance with regulatory and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities:
Macroeconomic & Market Research
- Analyze Kenyan, regional and global macroeconomic indicators (GDP, inflation, interest rates, FX) and their impact on asset allocation.
 - Monitor Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) policies, government fiscal trends and sovereign risk for fixed-income positioning.
 - Track global market spillovers (e.g., Fed and advanced markets central bank policies, commodity prices) affecting local portfolios.
 
Fixed Income & Credit Analysis
- Model T-bill/T-bond valuations using yield curve analysis, duration strategies, and liquidity forecasts.
 - Conduct credit risk assessments for corporate bonds/commercial papers (financial ratios, covenant analysis, default probabilities).
 - Recommend sector allocation (e.g., banking, infrastructure) based on rate cycles and credit spreads.
 
Equity Research & Valuation
- Build DCF, LBO, and comparable company models for NSE-listed equities.
 - Integrate ESG factors into stock selection.
 - Publish thematic reports (e.g., "Impact of risk-based credit pricing models on Banking sector").
 
Alternative Investments & Innovation
- Evaluate private debt, REITs, and infrastructure projects for diversification.
 - Research fintech/digital asset opportunities where relevant.
 
ESG Integration & Responsible Investing
- Develop ESG scoring frameworks for fixed-income/equity issuers.
 - Align portfolios with Kenya’s ESG regulations (e.g., CMA guidelines) and global standards.
 - Engage with issuers on sustainability reporting (e.g., climate disclosures).
 
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Familiarity with CMA and RBA regulations and reporting requirements
 - Draft monthly investment bulletins for clients on market outlook.
 - Present to the Investment Committee with data-driven buy/sell theses.
 - Support pitches with customized analytics.
 
Required Qualifications and Skills:
Mandatory:
- Bachelor’s in Finance, Economics, Business or Actuarial Science.
 - 2+ years in buy-side/sell-side research, with exposure to fixed income & equities.
 - CFA/CISI/ICIFA candidates preferred.
 - Mastery of Excel for financial modeling.
 
Added Advantage:
- Experience with Kenyan/East African capital markets and regulatory frameworks (CMA, RBA).
 - Knowledge of machine learning applications in asset management.
 - Track record of ESG research or sustainable finance projects.
