The officer at this level shall report to the Commandant
Duties and responsibilities
- Formulate, interpret, reviewing and ensuring implementation of existing policies relating to Forest Protection, intelligence security, investigation and prosecution, Forest law Enforcement Academy departments.
- Development of resource mobilization strategies for the departments of Forest Protection, Intelligence Security, Investigation and Prosecution and Forest Law Enforcement Academy
- Preparing and implementing strategic plans, operations budgets and work-plans for Forest Protection, Intelligence security, Investigation and prosecution, Forest Law Enforcement Academy in line with Performance Contract.
- Exercise delegated command and control functions cascaded to various ranks in respective departments.
- Offer advisory services to relevant staff committees for management of protection and security cadre
- Coordinating and participating in administering discipline and welfare of protection and Compliance staff.
- Undertake protection and security of forests resources, service installations and personnel.
- Enforce compliance of laws and regulations governing Forest conservation and allied resources.
- Advise management on implementation of forest Law enforcement strategies.
- Carry out special operations, forest firefighting and disaster response
- Submit daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly regional security reports
- Submit daily briefs on Forest protection, fire and Special Operations, Forest health surveillance for action
- Reclamation of forest land from encroachment and illegal acquisitions
- Management of Security Communication Radios and installations.
- Coordinating and participating in the inter-agency liaison and partnership with relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinating, preparing and participating in Protection and Security operation orders and instructions.
- Responding and coordinating disaster, emergencies and forest fires preparedness and suppression
- Analysis and dissemination of intelligence reports for timely decision making
- Train and enhance capacity of for intelligence officers
- Dissemination of need-to-know and actionable intelligence information at tactical, operational and strategic levels
- Conduct investigations in line with policies, laws and regulations and submit timely reports
- Liaise with the Department of Criminal investigation DCI on matters of forest offences
Additional Information:
Person specification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Security, Forestry, or relevant social science studies or relevant from recognized institution
- Master’s Degree in Security Studies or relevant Social Science from a recognized institution
- At least ten 10 years in security field four 4 of which in the senior management or equivalent with experience in Investigation, prosecution, Intelligence, or College Administration in Military or paramilitary formation
- Strategic Leadership Course lasting not less than six 6 weeks from a recognized institution
- National Defence College Course or equivalent is an added advantage
- Professional qualification and membership where applicable
- Proficiency in computer applications
