The CEO leads the Association towards the achievement of its strategic and tactical goals, adopts effective management and leadership techniques to achieve high standard of delivered performance from staff and seeks out and brings recommended initiatives to the Board of Directors.
The role also ensures stewardship of resources, compliance, and effective management of relationships.
The main objective of this role is to develop, maintain and promote a management philosophy that culminates in member satisfaction and employee engagement, while consistently achieving the mandates of the annual/long term financial and strategic plans of the Association.

Leadership and Management
- Provide overall leadership and guidance to operations of the Secretariat and inculcate culture and values that ensure that it achieves its mission, vision and objectives.
- Spearhead the development and implementation of the Society’s strategy and business plans and lead the development of these plans and budgets.
- Provide overall leadership and ensure effective day-to-day operations of the Association in consultation with the Board of Directors and other key staff for effective delivery and performance.
- Oversee development, periodic reviews, and compliance with the Secretariat’s policies and systems.
- Ensure prudent management of the Society’s financial and other resources.
- Ensure timely submission of reports to the Board of Directors, and government agencies.
- Ensure effective internal and external communication with the Association’s diverse stakeholders.
Secretariat Management & Operations
- Manage all aspects of the Association’s administration in a professional manner, e.g. procurement, invoicing, events, meeting minutes and communications.
- Stay continually up to date and abreast of changes and developments in the wider world of member societies and initiate necessary changes.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and County government legislative requirements (including Licensing, Health and Safety at Work, Employment etc.).
- Recommend appropriate improvements and innovations to the Board of Directors and Sub-Committees for consideration and play an active role in Marketing.
- Actively participate in the preparation of the Association’s Strategic Plan, Annual Budget and quarterly Forecasts, monitoring actual performance against these.
- Ensure that cash-flow is maximized, and credit control is fully operational; ensuring all monies are banked promptly.
- Ensure that proper financial controls are maintained and all capital and project expenditure closely monitored and controlled.
- Monitor the monthly payroll data and check the output
- Ensure that all statutory deductions are submitted by the due date.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a marketing strategy to achieve the agreed optimum number of members and take responsibility for executing this strategy.
- Take responsibility for the Association’s website by introducing innovative ideas concerning both design and content to ensure that it provides an up to date, engaging and motivational source of information for members and visitors.
- Promote and organize Corporate Days, Society events and Gala Nights etc. in order to generate additional profitable revenue so as to ensure better benefits for members.
Partnerships and Relationship Management
- Ensure the existence of strong and productive working relations with key stakeholders.
- Ensure that the Society is adequately represented in relevant meetings/forums at local, county, national and international levels.
- Ensure that the Society maintains positive strong visibility, good public image, and good public relations.
- Represent the Society to the media and general public.
Human Resource Management
- Provide overall guidance and direction on human resource management.
- Appraise and advise the Board of Directors on human resource issues.
- Lead the recruitment, selection, mentoring and performance evaluation of Secretariat staff.
- Act as the link between staff and the Board of Directors and keep the staff informed of relevant Board decisions and developments affecting the organization.
- Ensure effective supervision of staff including coaching and mentoring, development and training, performance management, and timely handling of grievance and disciplinary issues.
- Proactively employ practices that lead to staff motivation and retention and provide for succession plan
- Proactively mentor and support team members as a way of building a pipeline of talent at the Secretariat.
- Ensure annual appraisal for all staff.
Governance and Management
- Provide overall technical support and guidance on governance, management, operations and administration to ensure that the Society is operated in an effective and efficient manner.
- Ensure the existence of adequate structures, systems, policies, procedures and standards and that they are reviewed regularly to keep them current and relevant.
- Ensure safe custody of the Association’s legal documents, agreements, official records and security items; and that the legal agreements are duly signed.
- Ensure that the Association has adequate and secure data and information for its members, Board of Directors, staff, clients and government regulatory agencies and authorities.
- Serve as the Secretary to the Board of Directors and any other Board Committees as assigned.
Risk Management and Compliance
- Ensure that the Association maintains adequate policies and systems for management of risks including disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Control all security measures and insurance requirements ensuring that all risks are adequately covered.
- Ensure the Association maintains adequate systems of internal controls, and accountability standards.
- Ensure the Association is in compliance with government laws and regulations, internal policies, procedures, systems and professional standards.
- Ensure the Society’s assets and resources are secured and safeguarded from loss, misuse or misappropriation and ensure they are used for intended purposes
- A Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing, Hospitality Management, Entrepreneurship or related field.
- Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications
- Professional training in leadership and management, corporate governance and strategic management.
- Proficiency in use of computer packages
- Over 10 years’ relevant working experience in a Managerial Position and preferably 5 years in a Senior Management position in a BMO.
- Visionary leader with demonstrated team leadership orientation
- Expertise in service excellence.
- Ability to understand the professional body membership society operations.
- Demonstrated professional track record in the areas of: Financial management, Vendor relationship management, Human Resources Management, Project management, Information technology, Public Speaking, Business Writing, Meeting Facilitation and Member Management.
- Familiarity with the practical and financial aspects of managing a BMO.
- Excellent communication skills.

- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to network and build profitable relationships with partners and stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, personal initiative, decision-making, and ability to manage complex activities involving coordination with multiple project partners.
