Job Requirement

  • Bachelor Degree in the following disciplines; Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Planning or Town planning or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution
  • Have served in the grade of Principal Planner OR its equivalent for minimum period of three 3 years
  • Or have worked in the Urban Planning Sector/Department in a senior position for a period of not less than 10 years.
  • Membership to Kenya Institute of Planners or Architectural Association of Kenya
  • Be registered by Physical Planners Registration Board or the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors BORAQS
  • Have a certificate in Senior Management Course from Kenya School of Government 
  • Demonstrated a thorough understanding for national goals, policies, objectives and the ability to relate them to the physical planning function
  • Have demonstrated administrative ability, integrity as required in the work performance and results.

Job Description

  • Oversee compliance with urban planning regulations and policies within the County
  • Managing a team responsible for enforcing zoning ordinances, building codes and other regulatory requirements
  • Conducting inspections of construction sites, developments, and land use to ensure compliance with approved plans and permits
  • Investigating complaints related to urban planning violations and taking appropriate enforcement actions
  • Collaborating with other departments, such as building inspection, environmental health, public works to address planning compliance issues
  • Providing guidance and support to developers, architects and the public on planning regulations and processes
  • Developing and implementing strategies to improve compliance with urban planning regulations and enhance the quality of development in the County
  • Reviewing and analyzing proposed development projects and providing recommendations
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of enforcement activities and recommending adjustments as needed
  • Any other related duties as may be assigned to him/her by the Deputy Director or Director
